Here's the deal. I don't like coyotes and when I see them I like to shoot them. The problem is when I'm out hiking around, I don't want to carry a full sized rifle over my shoulder in case I happen upon a coyote. I'd like to have a short and light gun capable of killing a coyote to 200 yards - something that's easy to carry either on the side of a pack or over the shoulder or chest carried. I was originally thinking of a longer barreled pistol like a Contender and then kicked around rifles with folding stocks and even the tiny survival guns that are out but if I remember right the biggest cartridge they come in is .22 mag. I will add that I will most likely top it off with a lightweight scope because my eyes ain't what they used to be.

Kimber Adirondack in a 6.5 CM would be mighty handy if that’s what I was looking to do. Not sure what could be lighter.

A TC encore with a barrel under 20 inches would be super short. That, or something like an OG Remington Model 7 with an 18 inch barrel. Maybe a cz 527?

In your shoes, I’d consider a Ruger American Ranch. 16” barrel and plenty of caliber options that will kill a coyote. Ruger American Ranch

Budget?
Not an AR guy, but if legal in the Peoples Republic of Colorado, a light AR makes a lot of sense and is quick to deploy.
What fresh Hell is this?

Savage lightweight Storm 223. I keep going back to that one. I wonder how accurate that 5.6 pounds advertised weight is?

A 16" AR with collapsible stock is hard to beat.....but I prefer a lw bolt myself. Either way, looking at something like the following can make whatever you want to carry a lot more comfortable: https://eberlestock.com/collections/gun-carry/products/gunrunner-packThat's one I use for hunting with bolt rifles. They make different designs on the scabbard with some wider that work with AR's, etc.

There are WAY WAY WAY more cartridge options in a T/C Contender than just .22 mag. Many decent coyote cartridges, plus several thumpers. -Chris

I prefer a REAL rifle, despite having multiple GFI Kenai's and a multitude of Krunchentickers. Hint. Contenders suck heavy ass. XP's do too(but are better). Hint. Pass the 18" Montucky 270 and 105's for mayhem. Hint. Hint..............

If you decide to go with a rifle, a cut down Howa mini in .223 or 6.5 grendel is pretty handy, especially if you replace the cheezy plastic bottom unit. This one is well under 7lbs and the youth stock with the 16 1/4" barrel is easy to tote / transport:
