Is it really any faster?
And why do I feel like I am employed there while I’m trying to figure all this out?

One of the reasons I didn't pursue a career as a professional checker is that I am not very good at it. If a store insists on me checking myself out, they'll have to live with my mistakes.

I avoid the self check-out when I can, partly because over half of the time some clerk has to come make it work.

And why do I feel like I am employed there while I’m trying to figure all this out? Its cheaper for the store so they can make more money and still sell you 5 cases of Jolt Cola for $13

And why is it there always seems to be 3 employees hanging around the self check out watching to make sure everyone is scanning all their items. If there are that many people needed to monitor self check out, why not just open 3 more registers?

Even the DG has one ( and i mean 1 ) self checkout.
Never is working though.
It seems quicker to me.

Some kid in England bought a Playstation 5 at one by ringing it up as fruit.
Paid like 12 bucks for it by weight - normally 500...

If there are that many people needed to monitor self check out, why not just open 3 more registers? Those extra registers are for looks. Prolly just cardboard. I went to Academy for some Christmas shopping. It was busy so everyone was in one long line. Then a boomer told you what register to go to. Guys like “ find what you needed, making small talk “ I say ( nicely) “man, when they build these news store, why they put 15 registers? See how busy it is? You only got 5 going. ....” All he could say was “good question” and just looked down at the floor.

I'll use it if I only have a few items at HD or Lowes. Seldom at a grocery for the same reason as you, produce is a pain.

about the only place i shop that has a self checkout is lowes and they give a 10% vets discount and you can't do that in the self checkout. but the rare time i hit a grocery store and they have a self checkout, i use it. i get a lot of free schit that way. my way to stick it to the man. man.
