Not trying to start a debate on how great Cerakote is...
Anybody had luck with engine spray paint or similar for painting a barrel? I have had good luck with Alumahyde from Brownells on other metal parts, but they don't recommend it on barrels. In theory the heat can make the epoxy paint soft. Not sure if there is merit to that.
Not willing to sink $150 into cerakoting a barrel to make it look cool. I have no problem with Krylon etc, other than I am guessing barrel cleaners might eat it? I know brake cleaner eats Alumahyde.
Thanks

Tape the barrel with vinyl truck lettering tape and paint the tape.... any other kind won't not stretch/contract with temp changes.

I have used Krylon for many years without any issues. If you want black there is a good choice of finish options - gloss, matte, satin, if you want some other color the options are almost endless.

I wiped mine down with an acetone rag then sprayed. Everything has lasted just fine and the paint killed the glare as intended.

I've used either spray paint FOR engines or Grills....
then cover with a couple of coats of clear semi gloss spray paint...
I've used clear flexseal spray for hunting season a few times... keeps the barrel weather proofed...

Thanks for the replies. I'd might camo the whole gun including barrel. Krylon makes that the easiest..

Buy a Dura-coat kit for $29.95 and rock on. Mine wears great and is easy enough to do yourself.

Ingwe, do just run it through an airbrush? I think they have one you can run through an airbrush, but the newer one I got is already in a spray can....easy peasy.

How about an associated 'off the wall' related question... Cross Country ski poles! High grade 7000 series aerospace aluminum alloy... In bold fluorescent green - Ugh! Any recommendations for repaint to camo or even solid matt black? Pointedly too, whether such could be accomplished over existing paint. At 80 years, no skiing but "accommodation" walking staff! Thanks for any advice & Stay Safe! John Postscript: Just checked out CeraKote do it at home... Forget that! Equipment! Oven big enough for ski pole!!! Just need a spray on and preferably a "grippy" one for occasions when anti-slip hand hold beyond long normal composite grip area. Again thanks!
