I have pretty much adapted a “if I can’t replace it, I don’t shoot it “ stance lately. Smart thinkin'....

My .22lr 4" SP101 has been getting a workout.
After shooting DA with the revolver, my USPSA limited minor gun is soooooo fast.

I have pretty much adapted a “if I can’t replace it, I don’t shoot it “ stance lately. Smart thinkin'.... I have a floor level of ammo in mind where that stance would kick in for me. I'm a ways from it. Gotta say that I didn't have current circumstances in mind all those years when I built up my rimfire stash. I bought at least a minimal purchase of rimfire ammo every time I was in my favorite LGS just to not be one of the gun shop morons who hang out all day/every day and never spend a nickel. Even now I've had various friends, both here on the fire and locally who have helped to keep me shooting the bigger stuff. A guy who casts bullets 2 at a time gave me 300 .357/150 cast. Another guy gave me 1000 large pistol primers. Another sent brass for the .44. I hadn't loaded for any handgun for a long time. Now I'm looking forward to it. Now I'm 4 weeks into an expected 12 week delivery delay on purchased bullets. If things go as hoped, I may never hit the floor level of ammo where I need to seriously curtail shooting opportunities.

And I remembered 2016.
When i found steel cased 9mm for 12 cents per round, a year ago, I bought enough to keep the noise level up.
I've had guys try to stop me when I'm throwing empties in the trash at the range. Not really funny, but the look on their faces when they realize it's steel makes me chuckle.

My typical training day has gone from 500 to 100 rounds/week. I now shoot mostly my weakest areas and everything is shot from concealment on the timer. Dryfire and airsoft is your friend. Being competent w/ a handgun is a frangible skill, practice w/ dryfire/airsoft and confirm w/ live fire. I have prioritized my training to favor self defense.

mike r I take a similar approach. I actually have a dummy Glock 17 designed just for dry fire practice. It emits a momentary laser with each trigger pull to tell you where you would have hit. It's used to train police. Trigger pull duplicates the feel of the real Glocks. You can even do mag changes with dummy mags.

Meaning you hardly shot them when ammo was cheap and available, and you now also hardly shoot them?

Will probably shoot 22 lr more and less of the centerfire semi autos. Won’t be reloading for others unless they supply primers for awhile.
