Any suggestions for a 24” barrel Remington 700 BDL chambered in .17 Remington. It could be a variable or fixed power scope. Range would be 300 yd max on small varmint up to fox/coyote size.

I had one of those. I had a Leupold Vari X III 6.5-20X AO / FD on mine. If I had it to do today I'd look to the 4.5-14X Leupold, which didn't exist at the time, with a VH reticle, which also didn't exist. I have a .204 in essentially that configuration set up that way (non AO) and it works really well.

I use mine primarily as a calling rifle, shoot the occasional crow or other target of opportunity. It wears a 6x36 FXII. I’ve thought about going to a 3-9 for the extra zoom on longer shots or smaller critters but really haven’t had any trouble with the 6X so haven’t switched. I have a 4.5-14 Leupold on my 222mag, it’s okay but not my favorite narrow eye box and to me it goes to crap fast as the light fades. YMMV

I have a 700 classic which is similar to your BDL.....with a 3.5-10 Loopy on it and it seems to be about perfect.
My last 17 rem (cz527 varmint) had a 6-18 leupold with A0.......was too much of a good thing.

I have a Weaver V16 on a 204 RUG that I use to shoot varmints in sizes from gsquirrels to coyotes. While I don't need 16x to shoot called predators, but it sure comes in handy for shooting gsquirrels and pdogs.

2.5-8X36 on mine. Unless I'm shooting targets it stays on 3X.

I have a 2.5 x 10 4200 Bushnell Elite ( or at least I think that's what they called them) Anyway I figured I could hit a yote at 25 yards and a groundhog at 300 with it. It's brighter than my 2,5 x 8 Leupy but I think the Leupy is better for calling up close and personal based on the eye relief and eye box

Great magnification range too.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
