I got 1 Rem. Mod 7 action left with a 223 bolt face any ideas as to what cartridge I should chamber. I am currently waiting on my 17-222 to get finished up , I have a 204 Rug , 223 Rem.and a 6x47 Rem.
Looking for ideas let me know your thoughts, I will be staying with the same barrel length and contour.

Thanks.....Sarge

I'd be tempted to open up the bolt face and do a 6 ARC or 6.5 Grendel.

Considering what you've already got, .221 or .222, I think, or possibly a 6x45.

Or .300 blackout? Or .350 Legend?

Or maybe you have it covered well enough that you should consider selling / trading the action for one with a standard bolt face.

I don't have the FB bottom metal , I wonder how hard it would be to find with Remington's doors closed ?
I like the 223 AI and 6x45 ideas.

I think you got a point Tom , lets face it I'm just having everyone who is participating in the conversation talk me into another rifle.

How about a 7TCU? I built one on a 700 action with a 18" barrel and it is a great deer/varmint rifle.

Since you are already equipped for the .17 caliber, it would be fun to have another .17 caliber. Maybe. 17/221 or a .17Rem..
Tie would be a 6X45

The 221 and 17 fireball WILL NOT feed and eject properly unless the action was factory made for one of those cartridges. The plunger and extractor in the bolt face are different as is the mag box and follower.
Trust me on that, I pissed away quite a bit of money trying to make it work.
I’d make a 222.

Buy a new bolt from PTG and make a 308 based or even a WSM caliber. I had a pile of those actions and made everything from 17’s to the latest a 7 RSAUM last summer. Or you can open it up and install an M16 type extractor. How about a handy 358?

.22 Gren with a 1-7" twist would be where I was headed.

Conversations here over the years have planted the thought of a bolt action 35 Remington in my head and I still like the idea. It would require boltface work or a different bolt, though.

Another post in the 'fire made me think about the 6mm ARC. It would be a cool little round for this. I have no idea how hard it is to get brass for it right now though.....so .223 or a variate of it may still be the best route logistically.
