NO! Not the STW brass!

I am down to only 500. I gotta find more.

Well, maybe not. I still have 200 empties waiting on H1000 to load.

Still got boomers walking into the store every day asking if we are going out of business because the ammo shelf is empty. I walk away because I am going to say what I am thinking.

By Executive Order, all bullets are being "climate change"adapted.

I miss the days of lead and antimony wheel weights. I am afraid that I will drop a zinc weight in my pot, so I have quit using WW.

Curious that. I separate zinc weights from the good stuff easy. They float on molten lead WW.

The average American
buys his stocks when those stocks are at the top and sells at the bottom and swears the stock market is rigged against the' 'little guy' The average shooter only buys ammo and components when they are out of those products. It would never cross their minds to buy their ammo buy their estimated year or two years usages. I've got news for you there is no expiration date on ammo, that I've found. I've bought my primers by the 10s of thousands. cases by the thousands. Most of my bullets are cast. Jacketed bullets are bought by the thousands. my powder comes in 8-pound cans, usually several cans. Buy your rimfire ammo by the thousands even if it's not your preferred brand, if nothing else it will be usable barter material. The same goes for shotgun ammo. The wife found two cases of 12 gauge 3inch #4 lead shot in the neighborhood wives give away website, for sale. Thank heaves for grandsons.to carry them in.

The cheapest brick of .22LR on ammoseek is over $100. Many are over $150. Twilight Zone stuff.

Jim, the bullets I sent you are from my first 200 lb batch. (about five years ago, and all used now) It was composed of about eighty pounds WW, about eighty pounds of spent range scrap I sorted out from some barrels at a local scrap yard, and about twenty pounds of lead pipe, blended with Tin and Antimony alloys purchased from Roto-metals.

I melted 20 pound batches in my Lee pot and poured ten two pound ingots from each pot.

After melting 10 batches and pouring them into ingots, I took one ingot from each batch and remelted them to create 200 lbs of like alloy.

I still have 300 lbs of scrap lead gathered from a junk yard. It is in ten to twenty pound bricks of unknown content. I will have to add Tin and Antimony in a by guess and by golly manner to achieve something to make a decent bullet.

Spot on. A good thermometer can show when to stop with temp & not melt the zinc.

ANNND, save the zinc. Folks are testing bullets made with it. The one article I read about seemed to be positive about it.

I have not yet achieved enough control over the temp of my melt pot to ensure the Zinc does not melt. It does not take much to ruin a batch of lead.

Pure zinc?

Everything I have gleaned says a little Zinc ruins the pourability of Lead alloy. I understand it causes wrinkles and other flaws in cast bullets.

And YES, I do need to buy a good thermometer.

I still don't own a thermometer, but I've never had an issue sorting zinc from lead. If in doubt, when sorting, I tap with some steel pliers. Zinc rings, and lead thuds. Then when I smelt, I bring to temp slowly, stirring often. If I miss any in the sorting, they become obvious well before they melt.

When I cast, I run the alloy just hot enough to get good pours, and no hotter. The pot temp requirement varies with the external temp.
