I keep a spreadsheet with pertinent details. I’ve been lax in updating it the last couple years though.

I have the boxes and receipts for each rifle. I haven't yet put everything down in an organized document, but I need to.

I started doing that early on when I had only two or three, and in the little book noted sighting info, rounds fired, every hunt and any game taken - with location. Did that for a long time. Acquired other firearms, family and career grew, days became more complicated and time was in short supply - so concentrated on the sighting and the hunts. I still have the little book, but the note taking ceased a long time ago. It is fun to go back and read those specifics - seems like a somewhat different guy.

Note any errors the FFL made in identifying the serial number, as seen on the receipt.

I don't collect...I accumulate. If they don't get used , they go down the road. Lots of guns that seem like good ideas aren't.

Anyone have a favorite method - hangtags when in the safe, one notebook, computer file, etc?

I compiled a list and gave it to my insurance agent. I update it periodically.

There is a thumb drive copy of my firearms spreadsheet in my brother's safe.

I would not send it in email, as I do not want the tech giants to peek and the non FFL serial numbers.

And with the spread sheet, you can show how much spent per year on buying guns... so you can impress the wife.

Slm9s: Yes I do.
I make notes for such things in different places including my reloading log and various inventories.I keep track of the firearms serial numbers as well as the serial numbers of my scopes.
All is kept in both several hard copies of the inventories dispersed here and there - but also kept in cyber-space and another hard copy kept in my bank safe deposit box.
I also keep a current inventory that includes a current "evaluation" for said firearms and scopes.
I also have a separate and VERY secretive listing for certain firearms in case TSHTF!
