What a surprise! Actually, I watched it the other day, and while not as good as the Jeff Bridges version, it was pretty darn good. I liked the fact that he didn't stab the horse in that one, while the Jeff Bridges one had him stabbing the horse. Who wants to see a horse stabbed?

The Shootist, hands down. I liked that one, too.

I watched that for the first time last year on Prime, and remember liking it, but cannot remember what it was about. Okay, just read the summary, and now I remember it.

I looked pretty much all of his films. Big Jake is probably my favorite.

Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I’ve read the book too, that was a movie that didn’t need remade, even by the Cohen Bros

It would be a toss up between "The Cowboys" and "Shootist"

I always forget he was in "Hatari", too. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't been mentioned by anyone yet.

As a connoisseur of westerns, they can’t be compared as equals. The original was made in a totally different era of movie making. Coen brothers were still kids when True Grit came out.
Almost 50 years of movie making passed and the appreciation of the content changed with it. What people don’t realize is that people didn’t watch John Wayne movies to see what happened in the old west, they watched John Wayne movies to see John Wayne.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.

I don’t remember John Wayne making a bad movie. Today hollywierd could take note. Ronnie I watched Hatari a while back. Not good. What was the movie where he played a modern day detective, Brannigan? Not good. The Shootist, The Cowboys, Liberty Valance, and The Quiet Man. These top my list in no particular order.

1. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 2. Big Jake 3. The Searchers 4. McClintock 5. True Grit
#s 1 and 2 are practically equal. I can and have watched them both numerous times. Heck, the same is true for all of these 5. But, I consider The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance to be arguably the greatest Western of all time.
