Lots of nice scattergun wood here! Love the configurations shown.
Might have to post a few of mine now. :-)

Please do! ๐ waiting patiently. ๐ Okay, here are three. Top is a Model 97 Winchester 12 I had restocked and otherwise restored around 30 years ago. Next is my favorite upland shotgun, a Sauer Model 60 12. Bottom is a Fausti DEA SL 28-gauge, my favorite all-time 28.

Some wonderful shotguns on here. The wood on them is....well, beautiful. JB, I canโt say I have ever seen a 97 with wood like that, would be cool to take that pheasant hunting. RGK, that Parker is to nice to use, almost. ๐

That 97 has killed a BUNCH of pheasants.
It originally belonged to my first wife's grandfather, who used it from around 20 years old until his 70s, when I was hunting with him a lot. Back then it was a plain-grade with a 30" full-choked barrel, and he let me use it some. Obviously it had been used pretty hard, with maybe 25% of the blueing and stock finish remaining.
I could shoot it pretty well, and then one day he announced he was tired of packing it around, so was going to trade it in at the local sporting goods store for a cheap 20-gauge pump. I asked him how much they were going to give him in trade, and he said $75. So I wrote him a check for $75. One of the first things I did was tighten the barrel to the action, using the built-in adjustment.
Maybe a dozen years (and another wife) later I decided to upgrade it. Changed the buttstock dimensions slightly, and had the barrel shortened to 28" and screw-in chokes fitted. Works even better now!

John; Good evening to you sir, I hope the last day of February finds you and Eileen well. Thanks for sharing the photo of your fine looking arms with us, I appreciate it. When I saw the '97 I wondered if it was Ben's or not. While I hate to pick favorites from anyone, that story of yours from way back then somehow struck a chord with me and was likely when I started looking for the stories that writer did thereafter. Thanks again and all the best to you all as we head into spring. Dwayne

Hi Dwayne,
The last day of February here brought slightly warmer temperatures--and the forecast is for actual spring-like temps this coming week, into the 50s Fahrenheit! Which beats the heck out of two years ago in the first week of March, which set a record of -34 F. As I recall, you had a "big chill" then too!
Thanks very much for your comments on "The 97," the story I wrote on that old shotgun. Believe it was for Gray's Sporting Journal, but am getting so old am not sure.
Hope you are heading into spring as well--at least momentarily! We both know what can happen with the rest of March--as well as April and even May....
Best, John

The Model 1936 was a small ring 98 mauser - had a distinctive knurled knob on the end of cocking piece similar to a 1903 Springfield unlike the other mexican 98 pattern bolts. I found one years ago and it is still in family. Ironically I knew what it was (small ring) and that it was well made because O'Connor referenced it in his The Hunting Rifle book
