just saw my first empty case. anybody shot one? I would think it would be like a Scofield .

If you're talking 45 Cowboy Special, it is essentially a 45 ACP with a 45 LC rim.

The intent of the case is limit the air space for light loads in Cowboy Action Shooting - 180-200 grain bullets at 500-600 fps.

I love ‘em!

They’re great in that they shoot to the sights out to maybe 30y without adjustment (regulated for “normal” 45 Colt loads).

This is my cast 214 gr RN over 5.2gr Unique, going only about 620 fps.



They also work in my S&W 1917

Would those be about the same FPS as the old .455 Webley?? I have not seen one of those "in the flesh" in a long time.

Too bad there are no 45 Russian cases. If there were you would have it made. Evidentally with the name Russian it would work miracles. Right up there with the 9MM MIRACULOUS FARCE.
Maybe the case manufacturing people will realize the need for the miraculous Russian name on some.

Yeah the .45 Cowboy Special is a .45 Colt cut to ACP length. Designed to be efficient, burning light powder charges in a short length for lower velocity loads. Quite a practical and fun cartridge. It also minimizes the positional issues that can happen with larger cases and light charges.

Obviously enough oomph to smack small game!

I may have to get some of those cases OR just cut off some older 45 Colt cases. The size would make it obvious so you wouldn't mistake them for social purposes. I try to use the bullet loaded for a certain purpose as an obvious sign of what load it is. Keeps me on the right load too. YMMV Be Well, RZ.

Did that recovered bullet bounce off the squirrel or were you able to retrieve from just under the hide on the off side shoulder?

Is that a USFA Colt 45? Damn if it is. They sell for Python like premiums. Very nice.

That shot hit its right front limb (tore it off) and then bounced off the tree - never actually penetrating the animal. I happened to find the bullet on the ground right next to the squirrel. It was very peculiar and took me a sec to figure out.

I guess it’s like a canon ball hitting your arm and ripping it off. It’s not an A zone hit but the shock of getting your arm torn off at high speed is enough to make you wanna die

Yes, it’s a USFA that was worked on by Alan Harton: action job, installed a Clements front sight and J frame rear. The sights are VISUALLY THE CRISPEST in my meager inventory of toys.
