I just came from a olace that sells hearing aids.....they range from $3,000 to $7500
The seller installed a middle of the range set of ear pieces and they were wonderful.....extremely high teck and worked like a charm.......but is it worth $5,500?
I know many folks posting here are older folks like me.....(75 years) and I suspect have a lot of info to add to this issue. I also know there's a lot to be learned.....but is the education worth the asking price?
Lets hear it.....what are the issues and reasonable costs?

I'm kinda deaf. Went to the VA, and got them for free. Made a big difference for me. I can carry on a conversation now. They also hook up to my phone on bluetooth. HUGE difference. I had stopped using a phone.

My 96yo mother got hers at Costco. $3000for the pair, with great service, etc.... Similar sets at other locations were 5 to 6K.
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

My first set were $3100 from a local audiologist and they worked fairly well. I have had my second set for about 2 years and they are much better with the new technology that puts the speaker in the ear instead of having the sound run through a tube to the ear. I bought them from Costco and paid $1599. The newer version is now $1499.

I have had hearing aid for over 20 years. Got them when I was in my early 60s. I am nearly deaf without them . I still have a lot of problems understanding some sounds. Are they worth it ? That depends on what quality of life you want. Mine are over $7000. I am lucky as I got a L&I claim. I get new ones about every 5-6 years. Mine are the most powerful you can get. Hearing has a lot to do with your mental health. Take care of it.

My Mother in law gets hers from Cosco.

She does not like to spend money if she don't have to. None of us do!!!!! that's why we ask the advice from others that have traveled the road ahead of us. Thanks for the reply.

If you aren't in the VA system, go to Costco. Period. End of lesson.

I got my last pair at Sam's Club since we have no Costco around here and they were $1799.00 for two. They are the behind the ear type with an in ear microphone and volume steps with background sound suppression. Decent warranty and they replaced a microphone that failed for free. The company is a concession at Sam's and not part of their company.

I retired from that field after about 20 years, the last five with Costco. They are the best value.
Generally speaking, a mid-price $5000 hearing aid elsewhere can be yours at Costco for the aforementioned $1499. In some comparisons the Costco has even more features.

Yep, I got mine from the VA free. No not really, 20 years in the Navy in engineering cost me my hearing so perhaps I paid for them after all. Costco seems to be the best if you have to pay out of pocket.

The old man lost his hearing wrenching on his beloved C-119's Pratt & Whitney radial engines for 12 years. Rode a desk for DoD 34 years after that. Deaf as a fence post. VA said FU. He ended up spending nearly $20K on different sets of hearing aids the last 10-15 years of his life. Not a lot of love for the VA here.

Are you a veteran. I don't like the VA, but the gal who fit dad with his, but wouldn't follow up, said theirs are the same as the commercial ones. I called one of the big hearing aid vendors and was told the same.
