K why is the flag on the tail backwards and what does it denote? Hoss, I almost wrote a letter to the President of TWA when I was a kid about that. Dad suggested I do just that when I asked him. Then I thought about it a bit more critically. It is correct on the other side.... I assume it is meant to replicate a flag flying on the transom of a ship.

I always understood that was incorrect way of flag presentation. Agreed. Stars should be on the left (horizontal or vertical flag orientation.) That was why I asked dad. But if you think of it as a flag streaming from a flagstaff(it is symmetrical on both sides of the tail) Then it would look funny streaming against the wind...
