Theyre so good they were eligible for a one time $10,000 frame replacement. My nephew had one of those. He took it in for an inspection and they hoisted it for a better look. When they lifted it, the frame broke right there in the shop. They didn't try to fix it. They bought him out and he drove away with a pickup with 100k fewer miles and almost nothing out of his pocket.

Took it to the dealer and gave her an option of $12k for her truck or any used Tacoma on the lot. I tried talking her out of it but 3 days later she picked up a used Tacoma same model yr less miles that had the frame replaced already. Still think she was foolish but its still in good shape today.

The first Gen Tundra was a far better light duty truck than the second Gen, I'd say more of what you would expect a Toyota to be.The second Gen is an attempt to build an American style full size pick up. IMO, they sucked the Toyota spirit out of it.
I'd buy a 2006 Tundra long before I bought a 2007. I drove a Toyota 1991 Xtra cab 4x4 pickup until 2011. Loved that truck, would have bought a double cab Tacoma, but the teenage girls and wife over ruled me, too small. I did my research and bought a 2011 F150 Ecoboost FX4 rather than a Tundra. Love my F150.
I had a friend that had both a 2005 Tundra and a 2007 Tundra. IMO, the 2005 was a much better Toyota.

This past Saturday I bought a 2002 2wd V6 AT tundra with 217,000 miles on it. It came with all of it's service records in a 1 1/2" thick folder. Yesterday I drove 260 miles to Eau Claire, WI where, this morning, I met a couple from north of Minneapolis who had a boat for sale. Drove the 260 miles home today, boat in tow, arriving about an hour ago. I wanna say the truck is a champ, albeit slightly underpowered for towing in truly hilly country. We did 3-4 grades today that had it needing to downshift to maintain. A V8 is the obvious answer for that. Clean used truck to pull around my clean used boat. Happy with that... I’m shopping for an 05-06 Tundra. I’m looking for something with under 100,000 mile, and no rust issues. $12,500 is the upper limit of what I want to spend. It would be nice having a reliable vehicle with no payment.
It looks like if I find what I’m looking for, it won’t be anywhere close to home. Has anyone ever dealt with a service called Lemon Squad? You pay them to go to the vehicle you are interested in and they do a test drive and a full inspection and report back to you. It seems like a good service. I am really wary of getting a Tundra with frame rust problems.

Make sure the timing belt has been changed. This first gen model had an interference V8. Buddy of mine found out the hard way, at only 80,000 miles.

I have an ‘06 Xtra Cab 4x4. It has 178,000 miles on it and it has been flawless. I’ve hardly had to do a thing to it other than your basic fluid changes. For preventative maintenance, I did have the timing belt changed around 80k. I can tow my 19’ Lund ProV without any troubles. I haven’t seen any rust issues. My sole complaint is the gas mileage but I don’t get too worked up about it considering how good of a truck it has been.
