Nice buck. It’s funny how Mule Deer, even though they are the same animal look very different in different parts of the country. When I first saw it I had it pegged as a buck from Nebraska or South Dakota. Yours seems to be quite a bit bigger than the average.

Congrats onthe very nice mule deer and also your grandsons buck. I have enjoyed taking my son hunting so much I can’t even describe it. The most exciting hunt of my like was three years ago when he killed his first really big buck. We were sitting in an old barn in an oak grove that was dropping acorns and the buck slipped in on us started about 50 yards. I excitedly whispered to my son to get his gun up but he couldn’t see the buck. I kept trying to whisper where he was standing (and looking right at us) and my son kept saying he couldn’t see him. I just knew the buck was gonna run as he had heard the whispering and was standing on high alert. AnywY, I got the idea to turns my scope down to its lowest setting and told him the deer was just to the left of that reddish tree. I can remember my son saying “I see him” like it was yesterday. I told him o put it on the shoulder snd just start squeezing the trigger snd finally softer what seemed like an eternity to me, the little 7mm/08 popped and I saw the buck buckle and do one of those nose down crashing runs. I told my son that I knew he hit but I didn’t want to get over confident and tell him he’d gotten the buck because I was sure where he was hit. Anyway, we waited thirty minutes and started walking in the direction the buck traveled and after 20 yards or so I saw something in the distance that looked white, picked up the binoculars and there he was. I was ecstatic !!!
It’s funny how a hunt can be so exciting for someone that isn’t even pulling the trigger!
I enjoyed getting my son on his first deer so much that I now make it a poo t to take one of his friends each year until they get a deer.
Your post made me think of that story I just told- didn’t mean to derail your post. Once again, congrats to the both of you.
Dan
