Weatherby Vanguard is a heck of a bargain for a rifle that is well made and not a throw away plastic piece of junk. I have to agree with this as well...........as I think the MarkV might be the most over rated.

Before the crazy asking prices of the current situation, I always thought a Remington 798 (Zastava Mauser) was an overlooked gem.
Especially the 375 h&h and 458 win mag models. Used to see them for $450-$550

Most under appreciated rifle? I guess id have to give another vote to the push feed Model 70, I have owned several of these over the years and found them to be dandy rifles 👍👍.....Hb

I think the Sako A7 (not the Roughtech or Big game series) is one of the most under rated/under appreciated rifles out there. They are very accurate, seem to be trouble free and can take the abuse out in the field. However, a lot of people think they are boring since they are accurate (read to be expected), pretty plain stainless or black matte metal finish and a plastic stock. I believe this is where the thought process of why not just buy a Marlin XL7 and save the cash which isn't an unfair argument really.

I have a Vanguard 2 SS in .30-06 topped with a Leupold VX R 4-12 with firedot, and it is a heck of a good rifle. Had a young man who uses some custom rifle in 7MM STW tell me my rifle was a piece of junk. But he didn't want to put up $100 on a group size bet.

Another vote for the M70 PF! This one is a 35 Rem with a Sako extractor. Thanks, Dinny

I never hear or see much about the Browning X-bolt but mine is the best of all the many bolt action hunting rifles that I've owned.

Mine had a trigger only an Olympic weightlifter could overcome. Damned accurate though.

Howa 1500s, though that seems to be changing somewhat as more acquire and use them.
Main gripe is the weight, which is somewhat true, but mainly because of how they’re configured. My Alpine goes 7lbs 4oz with scope, pretty handy. They’re not the best choice for building a flyweight, but neither are some others like M70s, M77s, and 98s. OTOH, that weight brings some good stuff with it; forged steel action, one-piece bolt with simple toolless takedown, and a hinged-floorplate instead of a blind box or plastic DM. Good trade-offs IMO.
Include me in the Under-whelmed by 788s group.

The old JC Higgins M50s were often sold pretty cheap by those who didn't know what an FN-98 was.
Supplies are drying up these days and prices are up.

+1 on this with the Winchester 70 push feed a close second.

Remington 760. Glad I snagged one in 35 Remington when I did. And I'd vote for the 35 Remington if this discussion involved a caliber.
As for the 788 I have a custom job with a cut checkering stock. It's actually pretty. Then I had country gun works work over the trigger and it breaks clean at about 3.5 lbs. Smith said it ain't going to get any better than it is. Mine is in 223

I'd agree with a PF M70 except they've seemed to steadily get more "appreciated" over the last 5-10 years.
Model 94's are the same.
Howa and Vangaurds for sure.

Yep got a few builds on those. Trip the stock and scope/rings on fleabay, got a action for under 3 bills. 👍

I like older combination double rimfire/410 or 20s. Savage Model 24 came out in early fifties. Savage has a new Model 42 listed in new tech stock and finish. It be a nice carry in the truck or stew pot firearm in the field for squirrels, rabbit and upland game.
