Another vote for the Model 70 push feeds. I’ll throw the cheap CRPF WSM rifles in with that.

The FN actioned Husqvarna barreled FN 98's , especially those with walnut stocks..... But they are being scooped up these days.

In the Eastern woods, most traditional lever actions, usually in 30/30.

It’s unlikely to ever get a shot here over 50-60 yards.

Bought a Harrington & Richardson single shot 444marlin off my buddy Jeremy , he was blown to hell in Iraq . Didn't need nor want it but he found some shotgun he had been wanting for quite a while and insisted that I needed the H&R . smile ok .
He was right - it is a great rifle - really like it .
Gave it a trigger job , replaced the plastic trigger innurds with brass parts found in Greybeard and a thumbhole buttstock , 1.5x6-36 Bushnell 4200 . Knocks hogs real good .

Sandbilly , howdy , had a Browning BAR 30-06 Belgium/Portugal - really liked it - never jammed - shot all ammo real well . Buddy badgerred me into selling it to him for his Dads 50th birthday .

I've seen some Winchester M-70's shoot at gun ranges over the years -- they shoot !!

Never had the BAR Safari but have handled them. What I like about the Shorttrac is it’s 6 pounds 10oz. The Safari has to be around 9 or so.

Wow didn't know the Shorttrac was that light .
Yeah the old 30-06 was heavy but the weight and being an autoloader - recoil wasn't bad - even without a recoil pad .

I agree with the Icon even more than the X-bolt. No one seems to know about the Icon, and it seems everyone here ignores the Browning. I would not feel cheated holding either one in a hunting situation.

I now own 4 Thompson center ventures and they all shoot better than rifles costing 4x as much. I'm not crazy about the magazine feed set up, but boy do they shoot and for the prices paid, the best deal I have ever made.

To me it’s the Browning Bar Shorttrac/MKIII

I have the Shorttrac in 308 Win and my brother and a couple friends have an MKIII in .308 or 7-08. All have sub-moa accuracy with factory ammo and have never had a malfunction. Mainly we use them for hunting Mule deer in the sand where a follow up shot is often needed quickly, or for hunting hogs.

The Mossberg Patriot Synthetic - Vortex Scoped Combos:

...chambered in .270 Win.

At 7.5 lbs all up, and 1-1.5 MOA w/ factory ammo - a lot of rifle for < $400.

My first centerfire,
It taught me a lot including the value of stock design and recoil pads. Moved to Mauser '98's pretty quickly after that.

$40 with a canister of .303 cordite rounds. Think there was about 400 to the can.........

I have always had more push feed Model 70's in the safe than anything else, still do.

Both my picks are lever guns. Win model 71, and marlin model 36. Cool idea for a thread!
