I decided to make a knife for a LEO buddy of mine. Just your basic 1084 steel, none of the fancy steel most guys here use. Stabilized maple burl scales with g10 liners. At some point I’ll feel confident enough to use steel that I need to send out for heat treat. For now, it’s just for fun. It’s a sharp sumbitch as I just sliced the hell outta my finger while putting a finished edge on it. It should cut up a whitetail or two.

That turned out great!

Nicely done.

Nice sheath to match.

Nice and looks quite functional too.

Looks to me like you are ready for more expensive steel!! That is a very fine looking piece of craftsmanship!

I really want to get good at free hand grinding. Using a jig has been helpful, but has caused some epic failures and lots of extra work to fix. I'm only using a 2x42 grinder and it's FAST!

I started out on a craftsman 2x42 and yes it was fast. Switching to variable speed is a huge step up.

You know of course, that when grinding a blade you do not made a mistake.
You are just starting on a new model.
Grinding on a variety of machines will teach you a few things. But sharpening
you blade will teach you even more.
