Hinesville is a bit inland from Savannah, think sand and pine trees which is typical of most East Coast Army bases. Hot check, fishing check, diving not really it's a long boat ride out to murky water and nothing to see. The good news, nice places aren't too far away Mike

Son is on Stewart - not far.
Fishing is good, he likes to wheel his CUCV on the tank trails when he can.
Good golf - lots to do within easy traveling.
I happened to LOVE Savannah. Really enjoy my time there - lots to see or do. Tybee Island, Hilton Head is close.

Some cobblestone streets that will drive you nuts.
A gun shop that feels like a cigar bar.
The coastal islands are a pretty unique spot.
I think Lear is based there

A lot of history, beautiful old homes, River Street has a lot going on, good eats. The coast is beautiful. Plenty of fishing and water related activities. Tybee Island is a great place to spend the day. Yes it is humid in the summer but the winters are mild. My liberal sister just loves the place. I'll leave it at that..

Not Lear, when Lear was in operation it was in Witchita, KS. Savannah is the home of Gulfstream Aerospace. Largest employer in town in fact.

Keep in mind, it never feels all that hot on the beach. We spend many days a year on the beach in Charleston and never get tired of it. I’m sure there is good salt water fishing and good golf courses down there too. There’s nothing like coastal living IMHO.

I hear good things about the place and had many a friend stationed at Hunter. My unit was there circa '80 . I do not remember what time frame but is was a bit warm! We spent two weeks in a remab site, fenced in, while elements of our sister unit were OCONUS. We never left the site except to do some squad training close by. CSM knew we were bored so he set up a boxing ring one day and we took turns pounding the crap out of each other! One of the last days there they brought in a [bleep] of kegs and we had a big drunken mud fight, I still have pics somewhere, though cameras were verboten. Good luck to your son and thank him for his service!

We lived in a trailer park there for 3 years when I was a kid. Lock your stuff up. Even then.
That’s all I can add.
Oh and Paula Deen’s restaurant is dumpy rip off.

best friend’s younger sister just retired as a public school teacher in savannah, she a fellow conservative refugee from new england. her husband is a retired army helo pilot. despite a nice house and comfortable ties to the area, they are ready to move away from heat/humidity, and a nastier socio-political environment that started with obama and accelerated with blm. her last few years as a public school teacher trying to do the right things were really tough.

Savannah used to host a great St Patrick’s day party.
Lots of fun coastal waters, barrier islands, fishing and crabs.
As mentioned, hot as balls and fulll of dudes named JaQaurious that likely couldn’t recite the alphabet if their nikes depended on it.

My oldest daughter got her Master’s at SCAD. She liked it out there enough that she’s continued to live out there.

Used to be a good place for learning how to fly a Huey. And get drunk. I thought thats where the Cobra guys went back in the day. They did that at Ft Stewart as I recall.
I am..........disturbed.
