Like this:

https://www.ruralking.com/king-kutter-30inch-dirt-scoop-ds-30-y

I moved 3 yards of topsoil around my place with a shovel and a wheelbarrow and I need to make use of about 4 or 5 more yards. This thing looks like it could make it much easier. Its can be mounted facing forward or backwards and it had a mechanical dump mechanism. I'm thinking about buying one if I can find it in stock around here.

Anybody ever used one?

I can't lift and dump topsoil with a box blade.

I'm told that back in the day some people dug basements with pans like that, behind both horses and tractors.

I've used a dirt scoop quite a bit around our little farm. They work best on loose soil, gravel, and sand. They will dig up packed soil, but you have to go slow and take small bites. Loosening packed soil with a box blade (using the rakers) or disc helps.

I have one and use it alot. Not as fast as a front bucket but it works well. Beats the hell out of a shovel and wheelbarrow.

That's pretty much exactly how I see them.

I can see why it wouldn't be optimum on packed soil. But my purpose for one would be to move around a load of loose topsoil that I have delivered and dumped. I've got quite a few low spots on my place that I want to level up and a day of doing it with a wheelbarrow and a shovel is a lot of work. I've had enough of that.

I'd have already bought one if I could find it somewhere. Rural King and Tractor Supply list them, but I've yet to find one in stock anywhere and delivery is 8 to 10 weeks. I need to get it done before then.

I have one made by King Kutter. My Kubota L1500 cant lift it more than half full of dirt. Beats the hell out of shovel and wheelbarrow though. Your N should do better.

Used one of those a lot years ago. Beats the he-- of shoveling. Mostly used it facing the tractor. Use the top link to set how fast it digs in.

The 3 point on an 8N is only rated for 800 pounds. But you can hook it up to enough to lift the front wheels off the ground. The way I see it, if the hitch will lift enough to stand the tractor up, that's all you can use, anyway. I see some modern compact tractors with a hitch rated to lift 1600 pounds,...or even more. But I don't know how they can do it unless you chain the front end onto a big tree.

Then a dirt scoop is what you need. It will save you a ton of work, and a sore back.
