Golf league starts next Thursday for me. I golfed 18 the past two mornings and as I was watching my ever so perfect ball roll toward the green after my second shot on a par 5, I stopped and realized just how amazing of a golfer I have become in a very short amount of time. So with that, I would like to share two things for those that are also new to the sport: 1.) If you can join a league, join a league. It elevates your play tremendously. I equate it to shooting in your backyard with friends vs going to a USPSA match once a week. They're not comparable, and the difference in your play will become glaring. 2.) When you go to the driving range, don't hit anything over 110yds. Bucket after bucket. Just keep them all under 110yds. And pick exactly where you want the ball to land. Put special emphasis on 50yds and closer. Doing this has made me a much more consistent golfer and somebody that people genuinely want on their team. Because they KNOW I will put that ball on the green once we are in range. The only time my hands see my Driver, is on the golf course.

I guess we're not done with golf yet. I'm looking forward to slummy's posts about Nana's green beans more and more each day.

I think they make a person play it in hell. You deserve a drag off the bong Never liked them nasty things when I may or may not have partaken. The cool smooth smoke from a big bomber is more my style. You? Probably prefer to smoke a root. Maybe if I did smoke a big hooter I could get into a game of walk around someone's lawn and hit a ball? Nah,, I'll pass.

This 100% When I first started 1.5 years ago my focus was on driving. I used to try to drive a bucket of balls before we'd play and it helped. I'm not a big guy but my driving game is good now because of that, putting is what it is and it's all personal (I've always been a very good pool shot and to SEE the shot is what's most important to me). I golfed my best game yesterday and I told my GF that if I had my 70 to zero yard to the pin in tune I'd be right on. That's my sticking point. 60 degree from 80 out with a full swing and I'm there. From 80 in I'm stuck and NEED a whole lot of practice. Once again Flave is right, bongs be damned.

My take is this; Golf course management is the "Key" to consistency. You should not be leaving yourself in the red zone that you hate ! Always plan for a full swing to the green, with the club of the appropriate yardage !! If you manage each hole on this basis, you will not be left in between clubs, as often. It takes a lot of mental fitness to pick 1 or 2 clubs more or less, but it's how the pros play. My aim is to be 160-110 yards out, for every holes approach. Obviously not par 3's. As an example, on short, almost reachable par 4's, I might hit 5 iron off the tee & say a 7 iron into the green, rather than 3 wood & be left 40 yards short. YMMV
Paul.

1. Never full swing wedges. Ever. 2 Amateurs are better off hitting as much club as possible off tees. Very few golfers are as long as they think they are. Drivers have the largest sweetspot and the greatest room for error. 3. Percentages of up and downs are better even from rough nearer to the greens than they are from fairway approaches 150y and out. 4. Nothing impacts score as much as the prevention of three putting. Lag putts are critical. Get the ball close!

This is 100% wrong.
