My inlaws in Utah used to be huge Romney fans. They would always get pissed when I bad mouthed him. Last year even they admitted that they were wrong about Romney and very disappointed by him. My MIL has know him since they were kids. Mitts dad helped her family immigrate here from Switzerland and my MILs dad was the gardener at the Romney home in Michigan after they immigrated. She even said recently that Mitts dad would not be happy with what Mitt has been doing.

Don't confuse party faithful with ideology or idiocy.
Party faithful vote straight ticket in generals.
They primary vote for whoever the party supports or the incumbant.
The old saw is 40% on each side are faithful.
The 20% middle are the deciders.
Those 80% are the problem.
The R's support weak R's.
And too dam many older D's are too faithful to vote Republican so they
either mindlessly vote or stay home. (Partly how Trump won. Many wouldn't support the She Devil)
