As the guy who fits the description of the OP's initial post, I'd like to rebut his statements....hold on, I have to buy some tampons for my wife. My wife makes a lot more than me. But then again....I make nearly zero dollars. So basically its a competition to see who gets more money in their Christmas cards. I'd say that is victory, as you seem to have a pretty darn good life, way better than folks who are office zombies. I know folks in SF who are making huge amounts of money but are miserable and barely know their own kids. Then I know of folks in MT who don't make a ton of money but are genuinely good people who are taking care of the important things in life. But I digress. My wife is yelling at me that she needs them tampons STAT. You better get to it.

Fwiw..... in today’s vernacular, jealousy and envy have become synonymous. Didn’t always used to be that way, there was a distinction.
Envy.... also coveting.... is cast as an undesirable trait or feeling. Ok...
But “Jealousy” can be different in some usages..... these usages apparently now becoming uncommon. Jealousy has been describes at “zealous vigilance.” Jealousy “being applied to feelings of protectiveness.....” One usage described this way: gun owners are “jealous” of their rights and are vigilant in the keeping of the guard of those rights.
Jealousy could be used of a father being “Protectively vigilant” to threat to his beloved family.... guarding and protecting ... being vigilant to dangers.
Are you “jealous” or envying your neighbors bass boat?
Or are you “jealous” .... being protective of that which is yours.... that which is your own....girlfriend, wife..... children?

I have a sister in law who has achieved nothing in her own life but has a well paid, now retired husband who pretty much let her have anything she wanted. She can't call anything by its generic name. Not a "car", a "Grand Lemans", not a "speaker", "my Bose". Not a ski boat, "my MasterCraft". We laugh at her.I guess she did achieve mastery over her husbands money. Or their money.
