Shoot at the natural respiratory pause at the bottom of your breath before you inhale again.
Your sights should settle down onto tgt at bottom of exhale.
Bout the only thing you will deal with if done properly is sight or reticle bounce from your heartbeat.

2 to 4 seconds before your heart will race a little and vision blur.
If it starts.
Do another 2 to 3 breathing cycles and then exhale ,sights settle and squeeze.

Holding your breath with lungs full or half full or empty of air for 8 to 10 seconds is the wrong approach.

Slap that baby down on sand bags and take your time. You'll get there. Good luck!

Thanks , everyone, for all your encouragement, it is much appreciated.

I have been a competitive shooter since age 13 or so and have coached quite a bit over the years so am well aware of how things SHOULD be done. The frustrating part is trying to get my old body to do them. Right now, being shortwinded from the covid makes normal breath control kinda difficult but I continue to work on it.

I have always believed that offhand separates the sheep from the goats as far as marksmanship is concerned, I shoot a little benchrest but it is not my main interest.
