A friend of mine mentioned last night that he may want to go back to Alberta in Sept and shoot ducks. Wants me to go with him and it sounds awesome as he had a great hunt 3 years ago.
What are the current travel restrictions in and out of Canada? I know that is a loaded question, but can anyone summarize it, so we can know if the trip is even feasible in 2021?
Thanks in advance.

Just spoke to an outfitter up in Canada this past weekend. They're not too optimistic Canada will be open by Fall. I have a waterfowl trip to Alberta and probably cancelled again this year

The folks in Canada are not to happy with the USA after Biden stopped the XL Pipeline. Canada had billions invested in this project and lost a great future income on thie deal. I think border will be closed to a LONG time!

Canada is in the midst of the third wave. The politicians were warned if the variants got in, their higher transmissibleness would cause problems. And they are.causing problems. In Canada, health is provincial responsibility , so the provincial politicians are blaming the federal government , who are in charge of international travel. You have to blame someone if you screw up and you are a politician . Until 80 to 90% of the second doses of the vaccines are administered, the mess will continue. We are at 36% of the first dose.
The XL pipeline is only an Alberta problem, the rest of the country couldn't care less.

The rest of the country is happy to take Alberta money, while biting the hand that feeds it.

I have a kid who as a pipe-liner would have benefited greatly from XL being approved. If Biden hadn't shut it down our dickwad in charge in Ottawa would have found a way. There was no way it was ever going to be built. Nor is Trans Mountain going anywhere. The border remaining closed has nothing to do with pipelines being built or not. It has plenty to do with negligence on the part of our Federal gov. I want to travel to US as bad you guys want to head here to hunt. I want to hunt pheasants in SoDak this year. Plus, my Mom, Dad and brothers live in the US. I would love to see my elderly parents before it is too late. Jeff

We are heading to Mexico in June-renting a house owned by Canadian couple. The USA-Canada have the same problem: socialist political idiots. Ours cheated their way in this time. Everyone is angry about the manipulation. The pipeline should have happened: now we all lose to losers.
The Waterton NP is just north of Glacier. In 2017 we were there at the small Chief port of entry. We did not have our pass ports as we were staying at the West Glacier KOA-#1 in the US. I am a retired Lt Col-US Army Special Forces. Also spent time as an INS Special Agent, and had my old credential & badge. Along with an OLD RCMP card from a constable. The Canadian Inspector-Mr. Blackthorn- who we talked with for half an hour (no traffic) said that he made the decision on entries into his country. We were welcome-stay as long as you want.
Canada has been our friend for life, its an embarrassment when our respective politicians hurt both of our countries. Our SF lineage is to the First Special Service Force-a joint USA-Canada paratroop WWII outfit that kicked the Germans badly in Italy. LTC Marriott

Currently you couldnt travel to Canada to hunt. Essential travel only. They are starting to talk about opening things up though. My feelings are that it will happen gradually, and might never be as easy as it was pre-covid. Hope Im wrong on that. They are going to push the vaccine passport hard here, they are already talking about it. I do believe though that there is a decent chance that you will be able to make your trip by September. Canadians with brains have had enough and are starting to protest. Even happening here in Yukon now, and the Yukon is likely one of the most liberal places in the country outside of Ont.

Yukon might not be the most liberal place in Canada. I've seen much worse. The sentiment in the Yukon IMO is no one can develop anything. Between special intrest groups and the "green" people the resources can't be developed. After the last Yukon election it's pretty clear the welfare people run it.

As well as the vaccination rate of +80% in Canada, there will need to be a vaccination stamp on your passport. My passports over the years have had them.

Yea the people with government milk running down their chin are a problem too. They produce nothing, and two thirds of them couldnt make it in the private sector, thats why they are where they are.

Interested downwind. I've only traveled Canada and US and that was all trucking. I too believe their will be vaccine passports. The idiot in charge is hinting at that.

Jeff There is a fair bit of Transmountain pipe in the ground and covered up around here in BC. Appears the project is moving along. I agree with the rest of your post!

Going to be interesting to see how that will play out. Some states like Florida, have already nixed the idea of vaccine passports, and any states that try to implement them will wind up in court. How will Canada deal with those travellers? Even Canadians who wont get the vaccine, or are advised not to by their doctor for whatever reason...what happens to them? I see a real mess on the horizon.
