Scott_Thornley Campfire Tracker Joined: Apr 2001 Posts: 6,257 Sierra Nevada foothills	All the big (relatively) redear in our local pond lose the real red tint on the margins of the "ear" about the time they get 8-9 inches long. instead, it turns more pinkish. So yeah, that one definitely looks like a big redear to me. There's also a tendency for the redear and the green sunfish to interbreed, producing what I call Red Greens. Having a mixture of both phenotypes. Just a week ago, I had one of the best evenings of sunfish flyfishing I ever had. Redear and Bluegill were both utterly hot, starting to get territorial before the spawn. Nothing like a 10" redear or bluegill on a 4wt fiberglass rod to put a smile on your face.

Smoke a couple doobies. Grab my machete . Lob them stupid fuggs in half when they would come up. LOL!!! Bass and the snapping turtles probably appreciated it.

We used an old enclosed hog farrow house to keep the tanks and crossed a Florida strain of shell cracker with native sunfish. Them fookers got big quick. The goal was to find a fish to complete with the tilapia market. We routinely filleted 2+ lb fish in less than a year. That aside, this looks like a hybrid to me. CK
