Red Ear Sunny? Looks like a Bluegill to me...
Either way - stupid huge +1 . . . no red on that ear

Definitely a redear sunfish that's been eating a diet of quagga mussels. They are known as shellcrakers for a reason. Wow - what a lunker. Not inspired or even inclined to argue here, but the "definitely" seems overstated. Have caught sunnies and blugill since the 1940s and later also took a bunch of fish from Havasu. That particular specimen not only lacks the "red" aspect but also does not show the vertical body marking pattern common to red ear and most sunfish. More mottled. Easy to see why some say "bluegill", but I would lean more toward "long ear" sunfish type. Whatever - great fish. Female redears have more of an orange tab on the ear and a much thinner color margin than males. This appears to be an egg laden female redear sunfish. I have a pond full redear sunfish and also keep a few redear sunfish in my aquarium. I've caught a lot of them (1000+) over the last 8 years.

All the big (relatively) redear in our local pond lose the real red tint on the margins of the "ear" about the time they get 8-9 inches long. instead, it turns more pinkish. So yeah, that one definitely looks like a big redear to me.
There's also a tendency for the redear and the green sunfish to interbreed, producing what I call Red Greens. Having a mixture of both phenotypes.
Just a week ago, I had one of the best evenings of sunfish flyfishing I ever had. Redear and Bluegill were both utterly hot, starting to get territorial before the spawn. Nothing like a 10" redear or bluegill on a 4wt fiberglass rod to put a smile on your face.

I haven't ever seen one the looks that big before. But all that I saw had red or at least pink on the "ear". Be Well, RZ.

My last year of college I took an aquatics class. We used an old enclosed hog farrow house to keep the tanks and crossed a Florida strain of shell cracker with native sunfish. Them fookers got big quick. The goal was to find a fish to complete with the tilapia market. We routinely filleted 2+ lb fish in less than a year.
That aside, this looks like a hybrid to me.
