Sheepshead and Popinki (yellow heads and brown heads) are the wild mushrooms of choice here in NEPA.

Seriously envious. Usually found in our forest (especially recent burns) within a week or so of snow melt. Went out scouting potential firewood trees yesterday within yards of melting drifts and only scored one. Has been a dry April/May for us though. No calf brains, elephant ears, or coral mushrooms either. Will have to make do with dried stock.
Years back on a spring bear outing we were seriously into them. We'd fill up our hats and pockets on the way back in the evening and do a Morel course before grilling the steaks and spuds. High living.

I wouldn't ruin morels with meat... they're a "meat" to themselves and a total stand alone entree done right. +1
