It is such a rare gun that people don't have them laying around to double check stuff. I never saw a Super Grade Featherweight stock off of a rifle or with the butt plate off. I don't know but perhaps the cheek rest negated the usefulness of the holes?

I did pull the plate from another pre-64 FW I have (not SG), and it does have two holes drilled, kinda.

The two holes actually converge about four inches in, forming a hollow "V". So technically there aren't two 7-inch deep holes.
