I’ve had one of those for years.

They are beasts and sharpen easy.

My brother had two of those and broke large chunks out of the blade on both hacking limbs with them. The company replaced them both times but he sold the third one and replaced it with an Ontario Marine Raider Bowie.

personally getting into it with a knife is a last resort. Should I be forced into on I think I would want a claymore....

or a throwing hatchet (then at least you have a chance of knocking their lights out)

its all about reach...poke them don't let them poke you...

Here's one last idea from me.

This is my biggest knife. ESEE Junglas. 10.5" from scales to tip. Handle design is very good, and safe. It has a fairly good stabbing/chopping blade.

I use it often for busting up firewood rounds into kindling. Some pics when it was new....testing it out.

Guess I am worried about my hand slipping forward.

Anyone recommend a good stabby slashy knife?

Yeah, find a pattern you like, and some old files or plow shares and I'll make you one.

All it'll cost you is a beeve.

Alright Jim, a kitchen knife for the wife, a stabby cutty for you, and a small fixed blade for each of the kiddos. All patterns of your choice. If you want to be sentimental and send me some steel from the homestead I'll make it happen.

Chingow.

One measly little steer. laugh

An old buddy who had spent a good many years in the U.S. Navy told me all he ever needed to work his way out of countless bar brawls in ports all over the world was just a small 2 blade Case jackknife, and even then he said he only used no more than a 1/2" of a blade tip.

He said, "All you gotta do is just show them their own blood and they move out of your way REAL quick".

Negative. You need a super alloy, with a Rockwell in the 60s so that you can skin a buffalo, prepare supper, and shave your beard for 3 years without hitting a sharpening stone.

Now THAT is a beast of a blade. It's on my short list of big knives I kind of like...wouldn't mind having.

Yeah that seems to be a trend.

I like easy to sharpen on a basic stone.

I've got it's cousin, the Ontario SP-8. This an older model, made of 5160.....basically leaf spring steel I believe. Tough as nails. Not stabby at all, but quite a tool.
