JMHO- I've sold most of my more expensive
stabby pokey JIC of crackhead knives
I went in favor of quantity, but really didn't
give up all the edge.
I have several on me now on either side JIC I
have the other hand occupied
Most of what I'll carry in the hood here are decent
sharp knives that can be "lost " down the street
gutter drain if required, and I won't need to return
to the scene of the loss for any reason, and won't
be out a month's pay to replace it. Also, sometimes
things like knives will fly out of your hand while
driving if you're not careful.

FWIW wally world has some locking blade folders
that aren't the prettiest things, but you can get
one pretty fairly sharp, and if it disappeared you
wouldn't have a hemorrhoid

Edit- I should add that I don't carry these out
and about in the sticks. I still have some better
quality knives I carry and use

I’ve a couple EK double edged bowie’s I quite like.

Bit big for carrying around. For me, anyway. They’re pretty splashy and shabby though.

My only large heavy duty knife. A clone of a Randal 1-7. I assembled it from a kit over 20 years ago. It's made from some simple carbon steel that seems to hold a reasonable edge. I used a piece of Sambar stag instead of the leather washers for the grip.
Actually putting the sheath together was harder than putting the knife together.

Wonder how you could stipple the handle? Sharp soldering iron??

Jim,
Don't think a soldiering iron would work.
G locks are polymer plastic. It melts easy.

If Buck actually uses a phenolic resin to make the handle, it's pretty heat
resistant, and would either burn or get brittle/crispy with heat.

It might respond well to roughing up with a coarse abrasive.
It some other checkering technique. Probably wouldn't try any
impact stopping either.

Make sure its a cheap one but has a strong blade. You will only have to use it once, then it will be confiscated as evidence.

Very cool, but to modern sensibilities, those knives look to us like the sorts of knives a chef might use rather than being dedicated fighting knives.

They are kitchen butcher knives! 😁😁😁 What do you think everyone carried back then? Trade knives were butcher knives. Plain and simple. Look at the Perkins/Shively bowie. This is pretty much the accepted Bowie most likely used by James and Rezin!

Here’s one of Tim Ridge’s interprétations of a French trade (kitchen) knife. It has a good stout blade that will take some abuse. I use it for my Schweinfanger because of it’s 9" length. Perfect in the kitchen, or on the belt! 😉.

In the entire history of our country, I bet there's been many more people killed with a kitchen knife than any other type knife.

I've known two persons that did the stabby-cutty thing for living.

The colonel in the Israeli paratroopers was fond of her Fairbairn-Sykes. She had a lot of practice with it on sleeping Syrians.

John, my buddy who went through the Bulge was particularly keen on a Ka-Bar. He used it on everything when we camped. He said it worked equally well batoning through sheet roofing or finishing off the odd Kraut.

At the time, I was carrying an Air Force Survival Knife as a general-purpose blade. I generally kept it concealed at the top of my rucksack so I could reach behind with either hand and retrieve it. Neither one poo-pooed my choice.

Trade (butchers or scalpers if you prefer) were imported to this country literally by the 10 gallon keg! The english knives even sported exotic wooden handles like cocobolo early on!!

Ononostota war chief of the Cherokee. 1775-1780.

(One of my fav pics!)
