Meals on the Schkotov, a retired Russian cruise ship 20 or so miles out from Atyrau Kazakhstan on the Caspian. I like goulash, I don't like chitt meat. Bend is a ways off I-5, I assume it was off Hwy 97. In any case our worst by far was a place in Pollard Flats, California. What a dump.

Out ground hog hunting one Sat. & stopped in one of the many country stores around at the time for a sandwich, chips & drink.
Lady says no sandwiches today guys, cat just had kittens on the meat slicer & I ain't moving them.
Might compare to the last time I was at Golden Corral(father in law insisted the place for his birthday) & there was a 3' dia. puddle of puke on the floor. Chit happens but this wasn't cleaned up the entire time we were there. Told wife, never again, I didn't GAF whose birthday it was.

Runner up for me was some little German restaurant down somewhere around Pickett County TN. There were dirt daubers baked into the bread loaves, and the napkins and tablecloth were covered in dog hair.

Absolutely without question, Seattle, East Duwamish Waterway, south of Terminal 30, a tiny cafe on pilings over the water called "The Sea Hag". It had one of those old stamped tin ceilings, originally pale green, stained brown with a hundred years of tobacco smoke, board floors. The men's bathroom was about 4'x6', filthy cracked sink, ancient funnel shaped toilet that was 'straight through' right into Elliot Bay. Longshoremen's hangout, I went there first time on a dare, ordered a helluva fine big breakfast, no GI schidts, and returned many times for good workingmans plain food and lots of it. Sad to see it go away in the early 70's.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I had the misfortune to work in the homes of some of these people. It's not the sight...it's the stench.
I have literally thrown away work clothes rather than get them anywhere near my house. My wife is wise enough to not ask any questions if I arrive without pants.

Dub's Burgers in Athens, AL. Unbelievably bad. Melted electrical outlets and exposed rust everywhere. You can literally scrape the the grease off the walls with your fork. Burgers are good though
