To me if an elderly female knows anything about guns and has power in her hands to load mags, rack the slide maybe clear a jam if it gets real an auto might be ok, esp. if they understand what it means to do such things. But not many do esp. the older you get, might remember for awhile then forget.
A revolver is easy to understand esp. single or double action. Buds guns has S&W & Charter Arms in stock, C Arms is a couple hun less $$.
