Great story Dwayne.
And some Dutch-American family WWll history — my father was in the Philippines at age eighteen. One of his brothers was a German POW in North Africa while another’s destroyer was almost bombed into Davy Jones Locker in the Pacific Theatre. My FIL was in Europe and was in on the liberation of Auschwitz.
All made it home by God’s grace.

My in laws came to Canada in 1954 from Deventer in the Netherlands, they were liberated by Canadians, they said the Canadians would never be forgotten, they talked the odd time about life during the war years.
I believe he was born in 1933, so grew up while everything was happening, they are both gone now.

Living in Europe from 1963 to 1966, I have been to many of these cemeteries, which were less than 20 years old at the time.
Very Sobering to an 11 to 14 yr old kid....
