Yes, you’ve got the Bible, and the Egyptians have some hieroglyphs, but the Greeks and Romans were the the first early societies that were truly PROLIFIC in recording history and writing down literature. By studying them, you realize that there aren’t that many emotions/conflicts/etc, that haven’t been around for thousands of years. You don’t get the “intricacies” of that, studying petroglyphs of Neanderthals, Native Americans, and Africans. This is simply another way to “eliminate” much of the history that Western Civilization is built on.
