You can use ziploc bags if you use the thicker Freezer bags. You can also buy Mylar bags from Amazon and seal them yourself with a vacuum sealer.
Many people just wash out the MH pouch and reuse it for the trip also.

KC,
Here's link to a post of my homemade insulting bag holder for rehydrating meal.
Homemade insulted bag.

This one got gone when my truck was stolen while myself, my son and bwinters were on our way to hunt in MT in 2017 (I think).
But I made about 3 or 4 more for me and family (sons and nephew).

There are books out there about freezer bag meals. Do NOT get Freezer Bag Cooking: Adventure Ready Recipes by Sarah Kirkconnell. She's an idiot. The book has no contents, no index, no page numbers, and the recipes aren't even in alphabetical order. Her recipes aren't worth the frustration of using the book.

I have a small insulated cloth pouch that I purchased from someone online that works great and leave it for 2X the recommended time. Most often though I'm spiking it and just wrap it up in my stocking hat or some piece of clothing after dumping the water in it. One less article to pack around and keep track of.

Same here. Knit cap or any other insulation that's handy.
