FWIW the deer's score is listed on VPSA web site with a score of 236 & 5/16. VPSA uses the Va. scoring system which is similar to B&C but the Va. system adds for several things that B&C does not including circumference of burr and a spread credit. Deductions on the Va system are 50% less than B&C as well which also helps keep the final score higher. When all is said and done deer scored under the Va scoring system which has been in use since the 1940s tend to be a good bit higher than their B&C scores. No matter what scoring method is used that is a great Virginia whitetail no doubt about it.
The VPSA is a great organization and has been the record keeper of great Va whitetails since the early 1940s. If you ever get a chance to go to one of their shows with all the whitetails on display you should it is well worth it. Va. more than holds its own as a great whitetail state and produces some real eye popping monsters every year just like the buck the OP posted the pic of.
The Virginia state record whitetail is a 31-point buck taken by Jim Smith in Warren County during the 1992 muzzleloading season. It officially scored 259 7/8 Boone and Crockett and 296 using the Va scoring method.

Yes I thought they scored higher on the virginia system. I have been to the "Western" show a few times and got them to score a bear skull for me. Nice buck nonetheless.

The Va scoring system is likely the oldest scoring system for deer in existence dating back to around 1940. I've been to their shows a few times, its well worth the time to go. VPSA is and has for a long time been a great steward of Virginia big game records.
The B&C club may never admit to it but I've read and I'm pretty sure that the B&C scoring used today originated with the Va system. B&C just tweaked it with changes they thought would make it better. B&C scoring we know today started in the 1950s about a decade after the Va system was in use.
The Virginia scoring system for deer is a much more generous system IMO. B&C is much less forgiving and overall produces a lower score on the same whitetail.
I don't think either is perfect but what is??
No matter what system it was scored with or what the final score the OPs deer is a once in a lifetime trophy and one that deserves to be recognized.
