What’s the purpose of the front piece that looks like a sling swivel?

I like mine.
I killed this buck with it just last season. It's accounted for a few elk and deer as well, and 1 bear.

I shot against a bunch of them yesterday. They are a very popular rifle indeed.

I've had 5 total in my life. Sold off when I tired of them. Have one now I'll probably keep for the long haul, a late WWII Springfield I stuck a new Criterion barrel onto and bedded. Pretty sweet tackdriver with Varget and Sierra 150 fmj's and 168 SMK's.

Got one from the DCM 30 years ago. Luck of the draw back then. My $165 got me a minty International Harvester totally correct in all regards. Put it into a swap for a National Match Springfield.

Against your rules azzhat ?

Look around deepsheet

M1 GARAND

M1 GARAND BARREL, 6.5X55 SWEDISH

$295.00

Chambered in 6.5×55 Swed, this Garand barrel gives you the soft recoil and the ability to shoot supersonic beyond 1,000 yds. The mild pressure of the 6.5 x 55 also offers longer barrel life. Historically speaking, the 6.5x55mm is one of the classic Mauser cartridges. It is extremely accurate and it delivers exceptional ballistics.
