Not actually about ground hornets , but is about pouring gas in a hole. Well worth a four minute 23 seconds of your time.

My mother was deathly allergic to wasp stings. Hope it isn't hereditary. Guess I should be tested?

I have learned that they like to build nest in the ground around fruit trees . I have a few persimmon trees that seem to attract the little devils .

Any long neck bottle filled with gasoline . Wait till night and stick the bottle neck in the hole--- empty the gas and leave the bottle sticking out of the hole. By morning all will be dead.

I use diesel. That stink alone will vacate them.

I turned around the other day on the south side of my house and came face-to-face with a bald-faced hornet nest just a bit smaller than a soccer ball. Didn't get stung because I didn't swat at 'em or run away. Just sloooooowly backed away.

Thought about getting on a rain suit, gloves, and face shield at 5 the next morning and holding the nozzle of a hornet spray can against the hole in the nest until the can was empty. And after giving it much thought, called a professional.

He showed up in a bee suit and held a can of hornet spray against the hole until the can was empty, LOL! "That'll be $129, sir" I smiled and paid. No stings, no more hornets, and no obituary.

I ran over a huge nest with a bush hog a couple years ago, thanks God for cab tractors. Only two got in the cab, but there were so many I could hardly see out of the windows. Would have killed me for sure if not for the cab.

There are plenty of good insecticides that are legal and effective. Using gas, diesel, kerosene etc is not a good solution. Contaminating soil / ground water is ill advised. My product of choice is Fipronil containing solutions.

After dark. Lead with two cans of long range hornet spray. Follow up with 1/2 gal stale chain saw mix. Zero recidivism.

I battled yellow jackets in a lean-to attached to my barn for 3-4 summers before finally winning. I tried spraying them with several different liquids, including gasoline, but the clear winner was water and dish soap.

For whatever reason, the ground ones seem especially nasty. Maybe it's the whole lawn mower over their home thing, not sure.

No fun either!

If you want to kill ALL the nests in the area, including ones you don't even know exist, try this-

Mix a little sevin dust in raw hamburger very thoroughly and set it outside on a paper plate. Put it up high where the dog can't get it. They will carry it off and kill every nest in the area. I did this once at the height of an infestation of yellow jackets that were hunting something over the driveway. There were thousands of bees hovering around the house. Within two or three days they were completely gone. I didn't see another yellow jacket on my place for 5 years!

Poison some meat and set it out at your deer camp a week ahead of your arrival.

Not for this application but in the future get some “delta dust” by Bayer. It’s water proof and last forever. I spray it in all the brick weep holes and anywhere else around the house that looks like an insect could gain access

This works and gives a spectacular “whomp” when gasoline ignition hits the hives baseline.

Had them frequently where I used to live. I finally got smart and just left my push mower parked over the hole, running, for a while whenever I found a nest. No chemicals, flame, pollution, sneaking up on the hole at night….just hornets gone.

Complete violence and mayhem is the only answer to hornets.

I walked into a nest like that one time and got lit up. Something like 19-20 stings. Those little bastards lumped me up good.
