Yeah that's definitely a third variation!

A good honest Antique, that really doesn't deserve to be sent to Turnbull, or any other Restorer!
In my opinion!

Now if you've got an old beet up gun that's been ruined by some garage hobby hacker, that's different, bringing it back to it's originality. IMHO!!!

This truly Honest Antique needs to stay Original!

Yep, and not to mention that a ‘restoration’ would devalue the gun by at least 50%.

Have it serviced/restored etc to make it a user, not just a wall hanger

It's perfectly usable now! You want me to slather some cold blue and varnish on it?

You've done it justice by Hanging it and enjoying it, and if you've decided to move it like you claim,
You're doing the right thing by listing it, and trying to sell or trade it!

There's a guy by the name of Bob, on the WACA, Forum Website that is doing a survey of 73's and he stated that approx. just shy of 500, 3rd varition's, like you have, have been reported in his Survey!

Beautiful Antique, Thanks for Sharing and not destroying it!

I wonder what State Militia or ? had these at that late date.

Does Winchester do "Letters" like S&W does?

Probably something on the internet telling what agency ordered these during that time.

Really Interesting Rifle...

Jerry

Jerry,
The Cody, Wyoming Museum, will do a Winchester Letter, for about $75.00 bucks, for non members, and it takes about 4-6 weeks!
Most of these went over seas, so no state Militia, and the Internet, won't have any more on it than Cody!
