(bumping up an old thread)

Any news on whether MRC is making progress towards re-opening?

They went out of business during the pandemic. I've owned a couple of rifles, and would buy a used one again under the right circumstances. They were the last major manufaturer of square bottom CRF open trigger hunting rifles, closing about the same time that CZ got rid of the 550 magnum.

They had a reputation for questionable service and support and long delivery times.

I don't think they're really any better or worse than pre-64 winchesters or later classics, and have better features than a new MOA M70 but rougher finish. They did have the advantage of coming in many configurations a pre-64 was never made in (short action magnum, ultra-magnum, etc.).

Can't tell you much about the Montana Rifle Company, but you can't go wrong with a pre-64 Winchester!!!

Jon Sundra wrote one of the better articles describing the improvements of the MRC 1999 action over the Model 70. Slight improvements, yes, but improvements nonetheless.

Order a D'Arcy Echol's receiver. All the best parts of a M70 with improvements.
I did.
