There’s no question that FA revolvers are well made. Check the cylinder length, revolver weight and feel when comparing other options. The FA cylinder length is adequate but you do need to make sure heavier cast bullets have crimp grooves in the right location to avoid locking up the cylinder. FA tolerances are very tight and suggest you consider a taper or profile crimp die.
The BFR has a longer cylinder, weighs quite a bit more and may be a better option for really heavyweight loadings. I have a 6” FA83 in 454 and like it a lot. It’s insanely accurate with full power handloads featuring W296. I only wish I had a 45LC cylinder for it.

Any thoughts on a Smith X frame 460 and shoot 454 through it? But also have 45C and 460 options?

Hank Thoughts? It will do a fine job shooting either the 45 Colt, Casull, or 460. But I suggest you pick one up and then carry it around for awhile. Super heavy beasts. Packable or portable does not define the X frame unless you stay with a 4 inch barrel or shorter but even then they are really heavy for a belt gun.
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

There is quite a bit of truth in that They are beasts Hank

...........but I'd take the 5 shot Bisley 480 Ruger over any of the 454's.. ....of which, I have two. Be sure you look into the BFR before you make a decision.
