I went to local podunk post office, and they wanted me to fill out a form because I was buying 3000 in money orders. Never saw that before, and I bought a lot on MO for gunbroker etc. I did not buy 3.

I just cashed in a money order at the post office the other day, and saw on the MO that the maximim alloable on a postal money order is $1000. I was surprised, never realized that.

If you're still doing postal money orders, you're just plain ass doing it wrong.
There is absolutely NO benefit to a postal money order anymore. None. Zero.

I send a certified bank check, won’t send a money order, won’t buy from anyone requiring one.

If you’ve ever had a money order lost in transit, you know that’s it’s nearly impossible to get your money back. If a seller only wants a money order, I say they really don’t want to sell their item. There are too many other payment methods that are less archaic.

I went to PO and wanted to buy over $3000 in money orders. They said I’d have to fill out some forms. I bought $2000, and went to another PO and finished my business. None of govt business if I’m doing legal transactions, which was the case.

Lol! The 60's just called and said they want their money orders back.
Edit: one thing for sure though is if you "register" anything at USPS you can be sure thats the last time anyone will ever see it.

The problem with cashiers and bank checks is that there are more and more fraudulent ones. They look good, your bank cashes ir, then a week or two later they pull the money back out of your account because the check comes back bogus. I figure I might as well take a personal check and hold it 3-5 days unless the buyer is in a hurry.

There are too many other payment methods that are less archaic. I got cheated by a fairly well known fly rod maker for a $300 deposit sent via USPS Money Order. I tried for three years to get my money...no dice.
