a buddy of mine up in Jacksonville makes a nice Ulu knife. He cuts the steel out of an old massive sawmill blade. He makes his own micarta for the handle, and can provide a nice sheath if needed

We researched this for my Mom when she came down with RA. Ended up with the H. Roselli. Great carbon steel at 60-62 RC. About $100 from Ragweed Forge.

The maker is Dave Schlesinger. He is a retired master chief and served on boomers. His knife making name is "Crashblades". I believe he gets somewhere around $150 for these.

Call up Sulianich Art Gallery in Kotz, They should have some hand made ulus available from various local crafters. Why not go with one from the native people who designed them?

(907) 442-2990

They have pure jade up there, so will have that as a handle, or caribou antler, or musk ox antler.

When I broke my dog sled hauling caribou, they let me bring my sled in there to do an epoxy repair. They had a full on crafting shop in there, with every tool I needed.

They had lots of nice ulus then in 2019

I bought one from Crashblade a few months ago. Like the photo you posted it is a great blade, the handle is well made, and the sheath works well, The size is perfect to me unless you are cutting up Walrus or Whales like Agnes on Life Below Zero does.

Jud,

Look up Semper Sharp llc. on FB. He makes a real unique version...as well as a bunch of other things. Let me know what you think.

JMHO- before you spend the big $$ on an ulu
to be used for normal cutting chores, I'd get a
less expensive one to see if it'll perform the way
you expect it to
I went ahead and spent a goodly amount on one
and I could never manage to make it do what I
wanted it to. It took me at least twice as long to
skin out and cut up a deer. I went back to my
regular traditional butcher tools and do way better.
I guess a young person could learn the tricks
involved in proper use with time and patience and
practice, but I'm too old to go back to game
butchering school when I can already do a good
job

Very nice Bob, and a cool design, real cool design actually, but a little more than I wanna spend.
