New ones seem to pop up overnight. I don't know how they build them so fast.

There's a Dollar General about four blocks from my house, and a couple blocks further there's a Family Dollar, which is basically the same concept.

Dollar General put most of the Family Dollar stores around here out of business rather quickly. Better prices by far.

They've been a couple blocks from each other for about 20 years now.

Yep. That’s the way they did them here. Family Dollar was lucky to last a year after Dollar General moved close to them.

I like the folks that work at the local Dollar stores. They are courteous and most are friendly.
There's an elephant in this room that everyone is ignoring. He just lifted his tail.
Real Family owned and run stores are quickly becoming a thing of the past. I go downtown and it was thriving, had lots of foot traffic, little mom and dad stores a couple of years ago. Now it's like a ghost town.

While Beezos, the Walmarts and every other major corporation had their special "Essential Business" status, the sole proprietorships, partnerships and old general stores like my family owned, ran out of money to see what the next year might bring.

Yep

Walmart destroyed many small town “downtowns” across America. Dollar General is doing the same to the rural mom and pop stores.

The replacements have been big corporate franchises setting up outside of towns. The big box stores gained a near monopoly over the past year plus.

The industries that paid fair wages were announced by the obummer/ biten admin to have the tax funded power of their dictatorship declare war on them. My state will see the wrath of that power once again brought down on them. Bummers "war on coal " cascades to every industry on this side of the country that needs that energy.

As the Chinese proverb said to america, " May you live in interesting times."

Mom and Pop country stores are LONG gone in this area. The Dollar General is just moving in where there was nothing else.

They moved to a small town near here 3 years ago and promptly put the old five and dime out of business. Two years ago they built a store in my little home town. I'm surprised the old general store hasn't gone under yet but I bet it's just a matter of time.

DG is handy to have.

They don’t have a huge selection. But have what you need.

Couple sundays ago i was gonna cook on the BGE knock off grill. Thought i had another bag of lump in the shop.

Of all places, a rural DG had lump charcoal.

Next time y’all ride a bicycle across America you’re gonna find that Dollar General is your best friend, they’re everywhere.
