I've been working all summer on a road construction crew and have talked to people every single day who are traveling through to AK or coming from there. For some, crossing the border has been an absolute nightmare, for others its been not to bad. Seems to depend on the customs agent they have to deal with. I think it will get easier once they open to tourists, but I would also caution you to expect delays, and realize that you WONT be welcome in many communities. The Kwalin Dun FN just had an article on the front page of the local paper and they are totally against opening the border or easing the restrictions locally. ( no masks, restaurants back to full capacity etc) Im sure they are getting heavily funded during the lockdowns so that might be the reason, but dont expect things to be normal because they wont. At least in some places.

Thanks Yukon, we have the cabin in Ontario, many old family friends, so I', not worried about that.

Our daughter in law is a nurse, she said they do the Covid test in the local hospital, and that would help a lot.

Using the link Steve provided, and answering the questions as I expected you would, looks like you are zooked still.

Find out if you can travel to Canada - Foreign national without symptoms - U.S. entry - Optional
You indicated that you are:

a foreign national
not showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19
coming from the United States
travelling for an optional reason
You will not be allowed to enter Canada, even if you have tested negative for COVID-19 or have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

You cannot enter Canada for optional reasons, such as:

spending time at a seasonal home or cottage
childcare for your relatives
a personal or casual visit
tourism, fishing, entertainment or leisure
The Canada-U.S. temporary border restriction implemented on March 21, 2020 continues. All discretionary/optional travel remains prohibited.

Richard—this was my experience and I know 2 other people who have traveled to the US. I went down the last week of April and had to quarentine for 2 weeks upon my arrival back in Canada. The hardest part about the whole ordeal was getting a PCR test in order to return home.

One of my buddies went down the first week in June—he too had to quarentine upon his return but my other buddy went down last week—he had to do a test upon returning home but that was no big deal and no restrictions has far quarentine goes. Both these guys are Treaty First Nations and I’m dual citizen so no problem getting into US.

I went to a CVS Pharmacy in Edina,MN my 2 buddies both went to Walgreens in Duluth. First question they ask for is an insurance card or number—I just told them I didn’t have one—no problem. Guy at the Pharmacy told me he needed a name birthdate and address. I told him I’m from Canada—he said write down the street address of the Pharmacy. Even though I was standing right there in the Pharmacy I still had to go on-line to make an appointment for the test—I had to wait about 20 minutes and then a girl watched me do the test and seal it in an envelope.. the envelopes are picked up each day and analyzed the next day. I got my results back by email almost exactly 48 hours after the swab.

My buddies had the same experience except one guys test came back inconclusive—didn’t have enough snot on it. He redid the test and the pharmacy got him new results in only 24 hours.

I showed up at the border with my test results but had not registered with ArriveCan—couldn’t figure out how to do that on my phone. Got registered by telephone —not a big deal

Good luck

It looks like customs wants us to spend over $300 so they can scan our phones, and save them two minutes of typing numbers in.

Had the Thousand Islander tourist boat from Canada come right by us in US waters while fishing today. Looked like most of the people if not all had diapers on their face.

It's a pressure tactic. 😜 They can walk 3 days before the border opens. The union knows what it's doing. 😄

Who's the outfitter wanting to charge a $4200 COVID fee as this is just BS and folks should know who this is so they don't make a mistake and book with them.
