I'm thinking of purchasing one of these CZ 457 combos in .22LR and .17 HMR. Does anyone have any experience with these multi-barrel rifles? Was wondering how accurate they are and how well they hold zero when switching barrels. Would really love to have a third barrel in .17 HM2 if such things exist.

Thanks!

I bought a 455 .22 mag, then a .22 LR barrel. Neither of those was a stellar performer, at least not for me. On RFC at the time there was all kinds of chatter about torquing the screws and such for best accuracy, but while it may have been effective, it was more futzing around than I wanted to do for the supposed convenience of caliber switching. Others love that kind of stuff. I like stuff simple, so won’t go down that road again. I now have another 455 in LR, plus a 457 MTR, and am completely happy with both, as-is. Have thought about a Hummer barrel, but have little practical use for one.

You may find HM2 barrels on GB, or you can spring for an aftermarket one. My last HM2 adventure chilled me finally and forever on it. I don’t believe the current ammo is as good as the original stuff.

Never thought much of barrel switching on rifles. Do they work? Sure, but most people are just better of buying another gun. I own several CZ rimfires. They are amazingly accurate shooters with no futzing around.

I thought (it has been too many years ago when I followed this stuff close) that there was a head space difference between the 17HMR (22WMR) and a 22LR. Would the barrel (17HMR) have to be shimmed or the shoulder turned to a different length to make up for the difference?

No.

The factory simply cuts the chambers of each barrel to the proper headspacing- whether 22 lr or 17hmr. The barrel are attached solid lock screws in the front receiver ring. There is no fore and aft adjustment of the barrel.

I have a 455 with barrel set. It has been easy and flawless for me. YMMV I suppose

It was easy enough, just not rewarding.

I like this one a lot, my 457 too.

yes they hold zero but you have to record exactly where the zero is as the 17hummer will shoot waaaaaaaaaay flatter than a 22lr. my 17hmr barrel is slightly more accurate than my 22lr barrel.
