I've been that drunk a time or two.
I'm not proud of it.

NVhntr,

before we fly the coop completely here................

that rack looks like it came off a nice old buck. Did he have teeth left? NV deer? Jarbidge Mtns? Rubys?

Wherever, it sure is a nice one!

You're geographically very close Geno.
Sawtooth National Forest, Raft River Range, north western Utah.
He was big, old and gray. I don't recall the condition of his teeth.
I just kept the skull cap, the skull in the picture is a plastic repro.

Nice old buck wherever he came from.

There are a few amazing racks in the Museum in town and I seem to recall a couple up in the Davis Creek Mercantile too.

Mostly, those days appear to be over though.

Seems we have an outbreak of hemorrhagic disease starting up again in the Northstate. , Kern, Nevada, and Napa counties so far. Cervid adenovirus 1. Apparently in '93-'94 it hit 18 counties. Hard enough here to draw a tag in the "good" areas, if this takes off I can't see it getting much better, what with a drought and all. Fawn survival will probably be pretty low this year as it is, and to get hit with a virus that mostly affects them...........not good.

But, on a good note, thanks for sharing that one with us!

The pup is as well as I could ever have imagined. As Tom advised, she's just brilliant and wants to please.

A moose pelvic she drug out of the woods. As we are rural here in north Idaho as well as in Texas she needs work around the community and other folks and their dogs. She and I did just that this AM and she did pretty well. More to come...

great photos.

NV I like the look of the euro mount backed by dark leather..
it makes me think of the kind of room with padded walls I would lock myself up in...

Old deer on back side of his antler growth.
Got him in to tag station on FTCKY
I checked him out in the woods.
Teeth flat as heck
Biologist aged out teeth put 6.5 + on age.
Their comparison chart / pics only went to 6.5.
Dude said he was probably almost 8.

Still hunting into a fairly moderate wind.
He was hanging around 2 yearling does.
They had no idea I was 40 yds away braced against a tree for about 3 or 4 secs when I 1st seen them. I Just came up out of a fairly deep chest high dry creek bed that I was using for travel to get to this area of hardwoods hopefully unseen as best as possible.

And yes that is a Leupold scope on that Kodiak .45 pro mag
It aint on it anymore after another Leupold took a massive schit on me later this same fall on my mod 70 ot6.
I wont even own a Leupold lens pen.
0 Leupold anything in my house.
Thats how strongly I felt about that total scope experience I had with my Mod 70, also that fiasco cost me the last 2 or 3 weeks of rifle season that year.

Was a lifelong Leupold person
Age 16 or 17 to age 52.
All 4 of my scope deer rifles now have Sightron SII 3-9x42 duplex reticles on them.
Same scope, same sight picture across the board. No difference signal to the brain.
It's a mental/ physical memory thing...
And rugged reliable scopes.

YMMV about Leupold scopes.
All personal preference....

156 7/8ths gross
155 net
215 pds dressed.
4yrs old 10 pt.
Still hunting in fresh tracking snow, T32MD Maine outta the Owls Nest camp on the Parent Rd.
Had ta go back to camp wake up my 2 had too much to drink the night before buds to come help me get him to a road.
Was about 1.25 miles in the woods down around Titcomb brook area where I shot him. Was on his track for about 3/4ths of a mile over the course of 90 minutes.
Knew he was close at the end he had just gone through some chest high pines and a small slope going down into a cedar flat and snow was still falling off the boughs.
Got gun up looking thru scope other eye open for full vision.
I cleared those little pines in a very slow shuffle step walking and looking.
He was standing behind a old white 2 to 3 ft thick cedar checking his backtrail to see what hounding him with just his upper neck and head exposed.
Shot him thru the neck right their at around 20 25 yds.
