Muzzleloader hunting many moons ago. Out in the meadow still hunting the high spots. Heard some deer start to come towards me along a trail. Go down to a knee and bring my gun up to low ready. See a deer head coming thru the phragmites and she catches me bringing my gun up. Shot her in the neck at 7 steps. As the smoke starts to clear, she’s still standing there. Actually she wasn’t, another deer took her place and when I stood it ran away. As I’m taking a few steps towards her, I see a splotch of red. I look down and saw the unbelievable. Best I can figure is a once in a lifetime coincidence happened. As I was firing, a bird was flying past at the exact same time. The bullet hit the bird on its way to hitting the deer. I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it with my own eyes

All; This guy first appeared in about 2008 as far as I can recall. I finally got a photo of him in 2010. 2014 had the best kinnickinnick berry crop I've ever seen. Everything seemed to be feasting on it. Including this guy again. It was early and I sneaked in as close as I thought I could get away with and watched him. He was so low slung that year, he just plopped down in a big patch of kinnickinnick and ate all he could reach, then would skootch over and do it again. I watched him for maybe half an hour or more, then slid out and let him have breakfast in peace. A couple weeks later I found this - which was likely him again - but that's conjecture and speculation. Some mornings were really good for Shaggy Manes too. T Inman - please note the required blue bandana! Dwayne

All; Found this tree on Halloween one year, so I called it "Spooky Tree". It's the biggest Ponderosa Pine I am aware of. It's burned on top so I believe it was hit by lightning and it blew the tops off of it. Some of the "branches" laying on the ground are 18" and larger. Bit zoomed in - that's my hat and rifle hanging on it. They logged this but had to leave these two huge old Doug Firs. Closer in. The leaning one blew down maybe 5 years back in a microburst windstorm. Girls called this a "Battle Toad" as he was running across a frozen puddle just before this photo! Top ridge one valley over, looking south. Same place looking west - this would be straight north of the Pasayten Wilderness, WA. Dwayne

WyoCoyoteHunter; Good afternoon and thanks kindly sir. As mentioned, when I was a kid in Saskatchewan I used to draw pictures of guys on horses up in the mountains hunting, but I'd never, ever seen a real mountain in my life at that time. I was always drawn to them and honestly the first time I hit this spot in '81, it felt like I "belonged" here more than anywhere I'd ever been. This is one of the classic things folks take photos of here. It's Vaseux Lake and the cliff face on the right is McIntyre Bluff where it's said one group of Natives drove another group off one day in a dispute over the fishing grounds. Our daughter lives within a stone's throw of what used to be "the" falls of the Okanagan - for which the town of Okanagan Falls was named for. It's been dammed and has flood control now, but before that the Native folks would fish salmon and steelhead at the base of the falls. As such it was a hotly contested piece of dirt - much like the buffalo grounds were between the Sioux, Blackfoot Confederacy, Cree Nation, Metis, etc and etc. Anyways the road in the middle of the photo runs past our place and we walk the bottom paved road most weekends - it's about 15 minutes up to there from our house. Thanks and all the best. Dwayne

Great thread. You guys have done some stuff. I never took pics (well maybe a few) but you guys are making me wish I did.
Shot everything Pa. has to offer, mainly black bear, deer, turkeys, bobcats, coyote, even a Pa elk, a bunch of Colorado elk, Alaska caribou. When I get this house done, I just might take a minute to do some pics.
Keep them coming. This is what makes the Fire great.

A couple weeks later I found this - which was likely him again - but that's conjecture and speculation. That's the best bear schit picture I've ever see. Astounding! I guess now we know the answer to the question asked by mankind for centuries ... "does a bear schit in the woods?" LOL
