https://www.leupold.com/reticle/Hunt-Plex/10 moa from center to thick part of the reticle is too much. That's as bad as the wide duplex I also do not care for.

This. Defeats the whole idea of a duplex. Might as well have straight crosshairs. Pitiful design decision.

What’s up with all these super fine, open reticle on general hunting scopes, anyway? Thick enough to be fast and seen in any light, is about all I care about on 75% of scopes. The other 25%, I’m not using a typical ‘hunting scope’, anyway.

When I want thick bars for close range bracketing in poor light I want them in closer to the center. On top of that a 3 or 4 moa gap gives me a useful holdover point for cartridges I use at distances I'd shoot using that method.

That plus around 4 moa is about perfect for windage holds with cartridges typically used for deer and larger game, too. And around 3.5 to 4.5 moa is useful for rough rangefinding with the reticle. The original Leupold duplex and heavy duplex designs were absolutely brilliant. It's almost like the current generation running Leupold is stubbornly rebelling against the brilliance of their predecessors.

The duplex in a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 is pretty dang close to perfect.
What fresh Hell is this?

This. Defeats the whole idea of a duplex. Might as well have straight crosshairs. Pitiful design decision. Why is that? This is why. Duplex as pictured on the box. Leupold VX HD 5 Firedot Duplex. The same as the VR series. This would work for me. What you really get.

Its one thing to try and add new things and be innovative but replacing tried and true designs for the untested is baffling.

This. Defeats the whole idea of a duplex. Might as well have straight crosshairs. Pitiful design decision. Why is that? 10 MOA is too much space and there are no intermediate markers. Depending on the BC and velocity, most hunting loads zeroed at 200 yards don't drop 10 MOA until you get out to around 500 yards. Hash marks at 2 MOA intervals would get you on target in more usable increments, say 40-60 yards. Leupold got it right with the Boone & Crockett reticle and wrong with this one. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.
