Extra, late cow season. Shot right at dusk and then it got to about -20 and the quarters froze solid overnight. What a pain to hike in that much snow, with elk quarters. Snowshoes only help with crusty snow and this was powdery on top, with wetter snow underneath to ball up when you stepped on it, so hiking on a broke path actually made things worse, like walking on rocks that you can't see. One of the worst pack outs I have done, despite it only being a mile or so and a fair amount of that on a snowed in road. Just one of those perfect storm of weather conditions. Tweety helped comfort me though.
Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Good day on the water so far, 2 natives, nice water..

Evening of the last day of my 2015 mule deer season in Montana. This young buck fed to within 10 yards of me. I normally have no issue taking a 2 point meat buck, but had another couple of weeks to hunt whitetails, so I let him go.

I never seem to be able to find the biggest bucks twice. One of the biggest typicals I've ever seen....
Hard to tell zoomed out but that things looks fairy tale big.
What is/was he like a 220 typical or something?
I posted this one a while back, but this is a buck that haunts my dreams. Not real wide, nor super massive or tall, but one with "good" everything. I was elk hunting and the deer season had closed. I never saw him again nor heard of anyone killing him and I am in pretty tight with most serious deer hunters in that area. I would have heard if someone got him. This was close to the Idaho border though, so it is possible he migrated to and from Idaho in which case I may not have heard about it.
Your post of that huge buck, and that "you never saw him again" comment, reminded me of that big buck in the video. I would say you wouldn't be far off with a guess in the 220 range. I'm lucky in that I have a 36", 214" gross typical on my wall and this buck wasn't quite that wide, but he was very symmetrical.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
